National News: A major milestone has been added to the journey of Indian democracy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created a new record by completing 4,078 days in office as the Prime Minister of India. With this, he has now gone past former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who held the position for 4,077 days.

Modi has now become the second longest-serving Prime Minister in the history of independent India. The only leader ahead of him is Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was the country’s first Prime Minister.

Jawaharlal Nehru served as Prime Minister without interruption from 15 August 1947 until 27 May 1964, completing a total tenure of 6,126 days.

24 Years of Continuous Leadership

One of the most remarkable things about Narendra Modi's political journey is that he has been in power without a break for 24 years. He initially assumed office as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and held the position until 2014. Following that, he took charge as the Prime Minister of India and has been serving in the role ever since. This makes him the only Indian leader to lead elected governments at the state and national level for such a long stretch.

First PM Born After Independence

Modi is also the first Indian Prime Minister to be born after 1947, the year India achieved independence. Born in 1950, he comes from Gujarat, a non-Hindi-speaking state, and is the first PM from such a region to complete such a long term in office.

Trusted by the Public Again and Again

Modi’s leadership has been trusted by the people multiple times. He has won six major elections—three state elections in Gujarat (2002, 2007, and 2012) and three national elections (2014, 2019, and 2024). This shows that his popularity and public support are not just based on party strength but also on his personal appeal and leadership style.

Moving Closer to Nehru’s Record

The big question now is—can Modi surpass Nehru’s record? To do so, he needs to stay in office for 2,048 more days, which is about 5 years and 7 months. If he remains Prime Minister until 2029, he will become the longest-serving Prime Minister in Indian history.

Narendra Modi’s achievement is not just about one individual. It stands as a testament to the strength of Indian democracy and the enduring trust of the people. His journey proves that with dedication, hard work, and clear leadership, a leader can leave a deep and lasting impact on the country’s politics.
